Shut the Door

"When Elisha came into the house, the was the child, lying dead on his bed.
He went in therefore , shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the Lord"

2 Kings 4:32-33

There are frequent times in our lives that we need to simply shut the door and pray to the Lord. When we shut out the noise and distraction of the world we are able to hear the voice of the Lord. Elijah who was Elisha spiritual father and mentor modeled this as well in I Kings when he looked for God in the wind, earthquake, and fire only to find Him in a "still small voice". He had to shut out in order to listen in to the delicate whispering of voice of the Lord. True listening requires stillness and smallness on our part.

In Matthew 6:6 Jesus instructed His disciples when they pray to "go into your room , and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly"
